Yaa Asantewaa, queen mother of Ejisu, who led the Ashanti against the British in 1900 — rendered as original art reworked from a verified public-domain photograph, set against a field of adinkra-inspired motifs and finished with the Aya fern, the mark of endurance from the Akan Adinkra tradition of Ghana.
She rises from the cloth and dissolves back into it: history worn in light, not printed on top of it.
