The Aya Collection

Symbols rather than faces. The aya — the fern in the Akan Adinkra tradition of Ghana — grows where little else will, and stands for endurance and resourcefulness. Beside it sit adinkra cloth, the Drinking Gourd that pointed the way north, and the night sky people navigated by. Each pattern is drawn as original Burrell Archive artwork and made to order.
